19 August TriviaI received an email message the other day from my sister-in-law. It is a pseudo chain letter where you answer questions about yourself then send it on to your friends who add their info. I'm not a big fan of adding to these type of emails (this particular one has been replied to at least 5 times and is becoming difficult to read). The questions, however, are fairly innocuous and as such provide a good basis for a blog entry. So here goes:
1) What do you drive? Acura RDX
2) Have you ever seen a ghost? No
3) Where were you born? Southern California
4) Ever been to Alaska? No
5) Croutons or bacon bits? Bacon bits
6) Favorite day of the week? Saturday
7) Favorite restaurant? Firenze in Crossroads (Guido's Pizzeria is a close second)
8) Favorite flower? Carnations
9) Favorite sport to watch? Baseball
10) Favorite drink? Diet Coke or Guiness
11) Favorite ice cream? Chocolate Chocolate Chip
12) Disney or Warner Brothers? Disney/Pixar
13) Favorite fast food restaurant? Sonic
14) What color is your bedroom carpet? Creamy beigy
15) Favorite TV show? Jeopardy and Dirty Jobs
16) What are you listening to right now? My playlist is skewing country right now
17) What is your favorite color? Black
18) Do you have any pets? No
19) Favorite foods? Macaroni & Cheese and Sausage Pizza
20) Last vacation destination? Las Vegas
01 December Fighting over the MulletApparently Patrick Swayze and Bono disagree as to which of them actually invented the Mullet (you know - Business in front, Party in back). Now it seems to me that this is one of those things that no would actually WANT to take credit for... but that's just me. 12 August Black is the new BlackFirst brown was the new black, then white was the new black; now it seems that black is the new black:
Funny, I didn't get the memo that black went away in the first place... 28 June First Tigger, now PigletAmongst the many news events of the past two days, both Tigger and Piglet passed away. Yesterday the actor who portrayed the voice of Tigger (that's T-I-double grr-R) Paul Winchell passed away. He was also known for his ventriloquism work. Interestingly enough, he also held 30 patents, including one for an early artificial heart. Now today John Fiedler, voice of Piglet, passed away. He was a long time character actor. The role from I remember him was his portrayal of Mr Peterson on "The Bob Newhart Show".
It's a sad day in Pooh Corner. 21 May CSI FinaleFriday night we watched the CSI finale. No, not Thursday night, Friday. To digress slightly, we very seldom watch live television anymore (except for sports programs) due to the power of the DVR. It simply revolutionizes how you watch television - no more commercials, watch the program when you want to, and pause when the phone rings. Once you've watched television this way, it is very difficult to go back to regular television. But end of digression, let's talk about the show. All in all, we really enjoyed the finale. The last few episodes have been somewhat gimmicky, no doubt due to the fact that it is May sweeps months. But this episode was really well done. I guess I should say episodes, since it was two hours long. Quentin Tarantino wrote and directed both episodes, and you could definitely feel his influence. The story flowed well and was suspenseful, particularly in the 1st half. It was refreshing to watch a program that wasn't so predictable (I mean there was an episode of a different program that you could guess whodunit just from the previews). I'd say that "Grave Danger Vol. 1" & "Grave Danger Vol. 2" were among the best episodes of the year. (And yes, they deliberately used the "Vol." designation instead of the "Part" designation, and you Quentin fans will understand why).
25 February Thank Goodness It's FridaySo it's cliched... but that's how I feel. I'm looking forward to leaving work a little early (ie on time) and actually preparing a meal. I got a new cookbook and want to try one of the recipes. But I've been getting home too late to cook something that could take an hour to prepare. When you've never made something it always takes a little longer to go through the recipe. We'll see how it goes. Most recipes I modify in some way (omitting or substituting ingredients I don't care for something similar that I do like). The only modification I'm making in this recipe (Orchiette w/Sausage and Broccoli Rabe) is cutting it in half. I was going to use a different vegetable, but I decided to be adventurous and use the Broccoli Rabe. So that's the plan. Hope you all have a good week-end. |
